Resolution Establishing a Graduate Field in Asian Religions PDF

Resolution

WHEREAS, a graduate field in Asian Religions has been approved by the Graduate School, and

WHEREAS, the Committee on Academic Programs and Policies has also approved the new graduate field,

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Faculty Senate approves establishing a graduate field in Asian Religions and urges the Administration to place this on the agenda of the Board of  Trustees for consideration.

Background

This new graduate field will provide an academic home for the teaching and research that is already in place among many faculty. It addresses a growing need in the United States for a new generation of scholars and post secondary educators capable of dealing with the religions of Asia in a pan‐Asian context. Therefore, it will meet a current pressing need for the next generation of Asian scholars and will solidify Cornell’s reputation as a world center for the study of Asia.
