Charge
- Concern itself with academic programs and policies which are independent of or extend beyond the single or joint jurisdiction of a school or college faculty except those delegated to other committees by the University Faculty or the Faculty Senate.
- Conduct an initial screening of formal proposals for new academic programs or policies including proposals for substantial modification or discontinuance of existing programs or policies. If, after an initial screening of a policy or program, the Committee concludes that further study is desirable, it shall so report to the Faculty Senate. It shall proceed further only after authorization from the Faculty Senate.
- Examine policies governing the use of, and plans for, University-wide academic facilities and services, such as libraries, classrooms and computers.
- Provide an initial review of proposals from all sources for new degrees and for the combination, modification or abandonment of old degrees.
Composition
Eight members of the faculty appointed with the concurrence of the Faculty Senate by the Nominations and Elections Committee for three‐year terms.
One lecturer/senior lecturer with voting privileges, selected annually by the Dean of Faculty in consultation with the appropriate lecturer/senior lecturer association. Reselection of a lecturer/senior lecturer for a second year shall be permitted.
One student member with voting privileges, selected annually by the Staffing Committee of the Student Assembly. Reselection of a student for a second year shall be permitted.
The Provost is additional ex officio member.
Except as noted specifically the committee shall be organized and operate under the rules and procedures governing standing committees of the Faculty Senate.

Where not listed as a member or chair, both the Dean of Faculty and the Associate Dean and Secretary of the Faculty, shall be a ex officio members of each committee of the University Faculty and each committee of the Senate. The Committee on Academic Programs and Policies (CAPP) considered the following items during the 2023-24 academic year:
October 2023-February 2024
On October 5, 2023 CAPP was asked to review a proposal entitled, “Proposal to Delegate the Master of Professional Studies in Real Estate from the Graduate School to the SC Johnson College of Business and the College of Architecture, Art, and Planning.” The committee reviewed and was generally supportive of the proposal, but shared additional questions with the Dean of Faculty. Responses to those questions from the Dean of the Graduate School as well as from the Real Estate Department were shared with the committee in January 2024. The committee reviewed the responses and submitted a final report to the Dean of Faculty on March 5, 2024 indicating support of the proposal.
October 2023-December 2023
On October 5, 2023 CAPP was asked to review a proposal to add new Teaching Professor RTE titles at the University. A summary of feedback from the committee’s review was shared with the Dean of Faculty on December 1, 2023. The committee was supportive of the proposal and provided feedback on issues that might be considered as the proposal was refined.
