Senator Marino’s comments are well-taken, and I was unaware of the restrictions on shared accommodations while travelling. In the past, I have often done this even at conferences, in order to save on grant money for expensive hotel rooms. I would also like to point out that the current policy of discouraging multiple people from the same unit attending the same conference is inconsistent with a prime purpose of students and p0st-docs attending conferences, which is to meet and become known to other members of their chosen field.
