Resolution 79: Academic Integrity and CU Matriculation
Passed: October 13, 2020
Sponsors: Faculty Senators: Carl Franck, Terrill Cool, Ephrahim Garcia, Linda Nicholson and Shawkat Toorawa and University Faculty Committee
Senate Discussions: October 13, 2010
Resolution to Include Acknowledgement of a Cornell Student’s Responsibility to Abide by the Academic Integrity Code as a Requirement for Matriculation into Cornell’s Undergraduate Degree Programs
Whereas, as a center of learning and inquiry, Cornell is proud of its Code of Academic Integrity, (http://cuinfo.cornell.edu/Academic/AIC.html) but continues to suffer significantly from
violations of the Code.
Therefore, in an effort to increase awareness of the Code, and better establish it as a part of Cornell identity, the Senate resolves, following consultation with members of the Administration
responsible for admissions and enrollment and the office of the University Counsel, that acknowledgment of a student’s responsibility under the Code should be a requirement for matriculation into Cornell’s various undergraduate degree programs. Specifically, a student’s affirmation of acceptance of Cornell’s offer of admission should include language stating that the student will abide by the Code.

Dear Bill,
As requested, I am writing to report on the response to the Faculty Senate’s resolution on Academic Integrity and Cornell matriculation.
At the undergraduate level, which was the focus of the resolution, we have added new wording to each of the following types of documents, as shown in highlighting on the attached:
Early Decision Admission Letter
Early Decision Welcome Letter – Freshman
Spring 2011 Transfer Admission Letter
We will replicate this process for Regular Decision and Fall 2011 Transfer letters and beyond.
At the graduate level, not addressed in the resolution, we added new wording of “Please note that by accepting our offer of admission, you are acknowledging that you will adhere to Cornell University’s Code of Academic Integrity” to the online response-to-admission form, and in field-specific letters offering admission.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks, and happy holidays,
Barb
